Body detoxifiers, herbal remedies can’t cleanse kidneys, say doctors
By Sodiq Ojuroungbe Public health experts and nephrologists have warned Nigerians against the rising use of detox products, saying that contrary to popular belief, these substances cannot cleanse the liver or kidneys. The physicians warned that many of the detox products marketed as natural remedies for removing toxins could cause more harm than good. Speaking exclusively with PUNCH Healthwise, the experts explained that there is no scientific evidence backing many detoxifiers widely promoted as effective for eliminating toxins and improving overall health. They cautioned that the liver and kidneys were self-cleansing organs that do not need external products to function properly.
